Code of Conduct
Adopted by the Board of Directors September 17, 2025
The Larchmont United Neighborhood Association (LUNA) is a community-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to fostering connection, improving safety, and championing community advocacy efforts in the Larchmont neighborhood of Los Angeles, CA. To ensure a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative environment, all members, volunteers, and program participants are expected to uphold the following standards:
1. Respect and Civility
● Treat fellow members and participants with courtesy and professionalism.
● Disagree constructively—refrain from personal attacks, harassment, or inflammatory language.
● Embrace diverse perspectives and collaborative discussion.
● This expectation applies in person, online, and in digital community spaces hosted by LUNA.
2. Good Faith Participation
● Engage in LUNA activities with honesty and constructive intent.
● Participation should reflect a genuine commitment to the organization’s mission and programs.
● Activities designed to misrepresent LUNA, disrupt its programs, or intentionally divert its resources or momentum away from its mission are prohibited.
3. Integrity and Transparency
● Represent yourself truthfully in all LUNA-related activities.
● Avoid misrepresenting LUNA’s positions, actions, or affiliations.
● Board and committee members must disclose leadership roles or significant affiliations with other organizations with overlapping jurisdictions and/or that may have positions contrary to those of LUNA, to avoid any actual or perceived conflicts of interest.
4. Confidentiality and Trust
● Regard the privacy of other members and respect internal LUNA communications.
● Respect the roles and processes of LUNA committees, task forces, project teams, and the Board.
● Confidential Information may not be redistributed, repurposed without express Board
● approval, except where required by law.
● Confidential Information includes, but is not limited to:
● Draft agendas, meeting notes, or minutes not yet approved for public release.
● Internal discussions or deliberations prior to an official decision.
● Personal contact information of members, program participants, volunteers, or residents.
● Strategies, advocacy plans, or partnership negotiations not yet authorized for public sharing.
● Committee structure and functioning, including internal communications, role assignments, and early-stage proposals
● Event planning and preparation materials, including vendor discussions, budgets, logistics, or draft promotional content before official release.
● Public-facing communications (such as approved minutes, newsletters, public meeting announcements, or event promotions) are not considered Confidential Information and may be freely shared.
5. Compliance with Bylaws and Policies
● Observe the rules outlined in LUNA’s bylaws and any program-specific guidelines.
● To participate in official LUNA leadership or committee roles, you must be a LUNA member in good standing, including payment of membership dues.
6. Mission Alignment
● All members and participants are expected to support LUNA’s mission of community connection, safety, and advocacy.
● Repeated conduct that substantially undermines these goals may result in review under the Accountability process.
7. Accountability
Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in:
1. First Instance – Verbal or written warning from the Board.
2. Continued Issues – Review by a subcommittee of the Board, which will provide the member an opportunity to respond before making recommendations.
3. Final Step – Suspension or termination of membership if approved by a majority of the Board, consistent with Article 4, Section 8 of the Bylaws.
Appeals: Any member subject to suspension or termination of membership may appeal to the full Board at the next scheduled meeting.
8. Shared Responsibility
By becoming a LUNA member, or by participating in LUNA programs, events, or committees, you agree to uphold this Code of Conduct and contribute to a productive, inclusive, and mission-aligned community environment.
